E-14 Group Three Wrap Up

Check out Der Bog, folks, for the gaggle of prized specimens that Da Ones brought to the net during their three days on the Missouri River, all…what a show they put on, culminating in the awe-inspiring performance of younger brother Adam “Yellow Hat” and older bro “Big Ben” Rosenbaum who, together, took home yellow shirts for the biggest trout caught and released during E-14’s now completed Group One.  Adam landed a 22” Missouri Rainbow on Day Three while Ben bested him with a 22.5” Mo Bow, close and sufficient enough to garner each both Yellow Hats and Yellow Shirts—way to go MoBowenbaums!!

 

Also tickling the Twenty Inch board on Day Three were John “SOS” Reimann and longtime boat mate Demetry “The Ghost” Kondrasheff, the former with a single 20” MoBow and the later with both a 20” and 21” of the same variety, and similarly long time veteran Extravaganzer Josef “Fear The Beard” Shepard with his 20” MoBow beauty, bringing to 18 the number of Twenty Inchers caught and released by Dem Ones.  This number for one group equals the average Twenty Inchers for all three Extravaganza groups over the years!

 

Exhausted as they were from trekking over the Continental Divide six (count ‘em!) times, Day Three saw a presentation by George “Calibaetis” Bettas, ED of the renowned Montana Outdoor Legacy Foundation (on whose Advisory Board I am privileged to serve along with Jack Hannah) who, along with representatives of Montana’s Fish Wildlife and Parks Department, presented  in-person tales of the Foundation’s Grizzly Bear Relocation Program, included within which was a special video message addressed to E-14ers from legendary outdoorsman Jack Hannah himself…thanks, George, for being with us!!

 

As the Ones now make their way back to their homes in Colorado, Arizona, and California, it is now time for the Tattoos to find their Camp List, locate their bags (bringing an extra one with them for their soon-to-be-received E-14 extravagant gifts) and begin the final preparation process for their fishing on our local Missoula rivers:  The Big (“A River Runs Through It”) Blackfoot, The Bitterroot and The Clark Fork of the Columbia Rivers.

 

What is the weather like here, you ask?!?  Well, during the stay of the Ones we had a fire in the fireplace each evening, last evening saw a new snow dump in all of the surrounding mountains and, come this Friday, the temps are schedule to soar (relatively speaking, that is) up into the 80’s…so, it is still Howdy Doody Land here, folks, where Princess SummerFalllWinterSpring is in full command of the elements!!

 

Congrats Ones on a job superbly well done—you Twos and Threes have a high bar of both tolerance and fishing prowess to attain, but, somehow, I know that can and will be done.

Group One, Day Two: "The Day of the Liam"!!

You would think that catching (and releasing) two twenty inch fish in one day, as did Demetry “The Ghost” Kondrasheff on Day Two of Da Ones on the Mighty Mo, would put you in the winner’s circle, but, no that was not going to be the case because that day was “The Day of the Liam”:--a 15 year old returning Extravaganzer who landed not just one, not two, not three, but FOUR TWENTY INCHERS as witnessed above holding his largest, a 21 ½” beauty of a rainbow and after après logging his bounty into and onto our Twenty Inch board…bravo, Sir Liam “Son of Blackfoot” Handron, we bow to you in fishy homage, for that is 82 ½ inches of twenty inch fish landed in one day, an all-Extravaganza record shattering performance!!   

 

And bowers even include Chris “Hook ‘Em” Barger who, for the second day in a row, landed a 20 inch Mo-bow, with the rest of the fleet talking of fish and a perfect Missouri River fishing day and Adam “Yellow Hat” Rosenbaum who doffs his newest, honorary Yellow Hat for the smallest rainbow in years, a whopping five incher!

 

Further, Day Two saw new Montana nicknames being awarded to the not-yet-so-adorned rookie Ones for (not-so) valiant acts of Extravaganza courage, witness:  Armistead “Mo Bo” Browning being named for his first day 21 ½ bow catch; Tom “No Bow” Rodeno for his two Mo bowless days; Mick “Frick” Stefan and Mike “Frack” Davis for forgetting just about everything, including their camera on Day Two; Jean “Yellowinski” Prominski for her earned Day Two honorary Yellow Hat; and “Silent Davie” Pina for his Ghost-like fitting-in so well with the Wonderful Ones.  Thus, now, all Ones have their Montana Monikers!!

 

As I write this the Ones are just boarding their motor coach to re-traverse the Continental Divide and we shall see what their third day for-tells for us…hard to believe it but tomorrow the Ones already will be headed back home when it seems like they just arrived!!
